MIKE:
Okay, so  we’ve heard how you’ve worked with other people…you’ve helped them out and right now our viewer’s probably wondering, how can you help them as a regular client or as someone taking part in this retreat in Florida?

TAMARA:
Well, again everyone is going to have their unique finger print and we know that everyone’s got their own story. They all come to light – we’ve gathered this tool bag of skills and experience, interests, things that we’re good at…

For the retreat, I coach you ahead of time – we have an introductory session. If you’re interested in doing assessments, some people are good with standardized assessments…some are not. If you’d like that to backup and support your results or to support what it is that you want to do – I offer that.

I’m also intuitive and if that’s part of what you’re interested in I’m happy to help with that as well, that’s a beautiful piece of what I do. Sometimes I can see the situation as a person’s talking about it and get an objective look at seeing how these pieces of the puzzle can come back together to form a beautiful picture.

You’re also going to be with other people that are interested in self-growth. There’s going to be brainstorming, there’s collaboration. It’s a chance to know yourself better and then once you find your direction, pin it down and figure out the steps…and then a question and answer session after and a workshop.

So you set off after your utopian trip that’s on a secluded island in Florida in an ocean-side tent. Then when you go home you have a map to go home with and you have some supports in place. We follow up, make sure that you’re on the path that you want to be on. When you need extra support or you need some advice, we can help you with that as well.

MIKE:
Okay, so someone who’s watching right now might be saying that this sounds great, I think that I could really benefit from this, but you know, I just don’t know if I have the time or I don’t know if I have enough money or I don’t know if I can travel away to Florida – I got a lot going on right now…

What are some of the common misconceptions that going away on a retreat – those are probably a few of them but, can you speak to that…what would you say to somebody who’s maybe thinking that right now?

TAMARA:
Well, number one – you are worth it. So in the priority of the things that you have to pay for in life – I understand, we all have our bills that we can’t let get ahead of us. But this isn’t selfish, it’s important for the people that you love, it’s important for yourself, it’s important for the world that you give the gifts that you have. We all have our signature strengths so leaning in and using those signature strengths so that you can get to the top of the mountain, it’s not a selfish thing. It helps so many people, yourself, those you interact with, your children and the world. So it’s important.

One thing I didn’t mention is that one of the things that I’ve done with the Right Path For You is it combines my past with what the Right Path’s about. I put it into a formula because of seeing so many people who have written themselves into the wrong book. And what I was doing with these clients was I could see that it was working…

So working with people’s strengths, plus their goals, plus their experience, plus planning, plus action, plus support, minus the obstacles that you’re dealing with … equals success.

Strengths + Goals + Experience + Planning + Action + Support – Obstacles
= Success

I know that’s a long equation, but it makes sense. You take those aspects of what it is that you’re going through in life and you can’t help but succeed. You need to participate, you do need to want to grow, but if you step on this ride – we’ve got your back.

MIKE:
Right, yeah. You know, investing in yourself is always smart. Whether it’s education…in some ways you’re kind of educating yourself on who you are and who you want to be. You can’t just think about the up-front cost, you have to think about what’s the cost of living the rest of your life being unfulfilled and being unhappy?

For anyone that feels like spending any sort of money for going away on a retreat and doing something like this as purely selfish…you have to think about all the significant people in your life that deal with you every day. They see you not living your ideal life or they see that you’re not happy or you’re definitely not in the right space. It kind of feels selfish for you to go off on a retreat like this but in the end, you stand to benefit so much yourself and the people around you at the same time.

You have to ask yourself, it’s not just the cost of doing this but what’s the cost of not doing it?

TAMARA:
Exactly. As you mentioned all those things, it brought me to a poem that Marianne Williamson had written about: “Who are you to shrink so that other people feel better”.

MIKE:
Right.

TAMARA:
Step forward, present your best. Don’t hold back because other people would be happier if you did so. Grow. That’s the purpose of us being here is to grow and you know it’s like a seed is planted and life is a constant quest to grow.

If you’re ready to continue growing and feel like you’re really living – then come. There’s no reason not to.

MIKE IPPERSIEL:
Okay, so – just curious, how did you decide that this was what you wanted to do with your life? Was there anything that lead you to that conclusion? Was there an event in your life or something that you just reflected on and said you know – this is what I want to do?

TAMARA SILLINGLE:
Well, really it’s the natural evolution of my career. I’ve gone from one type of counseling career to another, case work, career counseling, doing psychological assessments under the supervision of a psychologist. And the last position that I did was I worked in the insurance industry doing … I was called a vocational rehabilitation specialist and I would meet with clients who were two years post-accident and they could no longer go back to the work that they were working in and the insurance company wanted to find positions for them given all their limitations.

So I would look at the reports and recommendations of various specialists and then I would meet with the client and consult with them and do some testing too …that included interest testing and skills testing, to get them as close to what it is that they want to do as possible. They would come in and they would be guarded, and then I’d start my interview by saying, “what do you want to do in an ideal world if you could do anything that you wanted to…what would it be?”

And to see people transformed from that one question and give them the ability to dream, it was amazing to watch. It made me realize that this is what I’m really passionate about.

I look back on my whole life, my mission has been to make people more comfortable and to make them realize their authentic self and what it is that they’re good at.

When you see a person that’s doing the right thing, being themselves and in the right place…you know they have something, you just see it, you feel it. They’re almost humming – they’re at a special…they’ve accomplished something.

I took life coaching and I designed my company The Right Path for You based on coaching and consulting people, referring them and taking an eclectic team approach to looking at each individual’s life and the challenges they face and the strengths that they have and helping weave it into a career direction or a lifestyle that they really want.

I read a study the other day that one of the things that they find that when you ask somebody at the end of their life, what are their regrets? Far more often than not, and I’m sorry I don’t remember the exact number but it was up around 80-90%, is people not doing what it is that they wanted to do. They never followed their dreams. I want to help people to grow and potentially follow their dreams.

MIKE:
Yeah and when you’re telling that story about working with people that are on insurance for whatever disability and they’re trying to restart their life after having some sort of an accident, I guess the reality of the situation…and I guess it’s kind of sad at the same time is that there’s plenty of us that…you could almost say to these people that they had some sort of misfortune in their life; they were in this situation on insurance. But at the same time you have people who are perfectly healthy that are just doing the wrong thing in life and it takes this accident or this misfortune to happen where they can actually stop the day-to-day cycle and just reflect and just go, “wait a sec, I shouldn’t be here. There’s more to my life than this.”

So it’s kinda funny in a weird way to think that the people who’ve had the misfortune are in some ways almost more lucky than the people who haven’t had any misfortune and they’re still stuck in this…‘hamster wheel, where they’re stuck in this grind and they haven’t had the misfortune yet that’s forced them to come off the hamster wheel and re-evaluate their life and what’s going on.

TAMARA:
Absolutely. I would sometimes run into people after, those that we could tell that we gained some serious ground in our interview and they said their session with me was transformational. It was awesome and it gave them a second chance. They hadn’t seen their insurance crisis as something that could be a restart or a second chance. They told me that I helped them to have the second chance and that’s why it is that I formed The Right Path For You and that’s what it is that I do.

You also mentioned about how sometimes life has to give you these hard knocks in order for you to go, “okay…well maybe it is time to do something else.” We go through life and sometimes we think about our dreams or the things we want to do and it seems too big, so we say, “no, no – not now” and life makes the choice for you…the universe, God, whatever it is – the higher power that you believe in or just the higher version of yourself…just comes in and says, “it’s time now.”.

So, it’s better to find out more gently while you’re driving as opposed to waiting for something, some crisis to happen and life to choose for you. Second chances are given all the time and this is what I offer: a chance for somebody to get in their own driver’s seat, design their life, be inspired and get all the support that they need.

MIKE IPPERSIEL:
Hi! I’m Mike Ippersiel and today my guest is Tamara Sillingle. Tamara is the founder and president of The Right Path for You. She’s a certified professional coach and an intuitive with a post graduate certification in career development and a BA in psychology.

Tamara’s spent almost 20 years counseling, consulting, assessing, guiding and helping clients integrate action plans to improve their lives. Her company’s mission is to create programs unique to each client to help them access their signature strength and unlock their ideal life.

Hi Tamara, how are you doing?

TAMARA SILLINGLE:
I’m good Michael – thanks for that introduction, that was great.

MIKE:
No problem. So just to let everyone know, at the end of this interview Tamara’s going to let us know how a viewer can win the opportunity to get a free scholarship to The Key for You Success Retreat in Florida featuring Jack Canfield. So stick around to the end to find out more about that…

But to kick things off, Tamara – tell us about yourself… what you do…

TAMARA:
Well, my name’s Tamara and I’m an intuitive life coach and career counselor. I’m also a skills specialist. What I am offering is a retreat that’s coming up and it’s in the Florida Keys on a private island and it features Jack Canfield. It’s to help you design a new life that’s meant for you. We’re going to access your signature strengths and bring out what you do best. And help you work through some of the obstacles that holds you back from living the life that you want to live.

MIKE:
Okay, so yeah – sounds really interesting with a lot of people…I know myself included, you kind of go to school, once you’re done school you go out into the career world. You do that for a while and every so often maybe you come up for air and you realize – ‘hey I’m not really doing what I want to do’. Is that the time when people start to consider or, look out for someone like yourself to get grounded or figure out which direction they should be heading instead?

TAMARA:
Absolutely.
If you ask yourself, “am I where I want to be in life” and if you are – then great and that’s amazing. I help by coaching people like you to stay where you are and continue your growth. But this retreat is mainly focused on those who are ready to do what it is they’ve always wanted to do with life and tap into their strengths and passions and design a path that will get them to what they always wanted to do – to the highest version of themselves.

MIKE:
Right. And especially in the context of a retreat, you’re getting out of your day-to-day routine…you’re in a different environment, a positive environment with people that can give you the guidance that you need to figure out which way to go.

TAMARA:
The logo for our retreat is “retreat, reset and rebuild”. It’s time to start living the life that you want to live now.

End of Part 1 of Interview.
